George Washington University’s Institute for Data, Democracy and Politics (IDDP) held a forum on disinformation during the coronavirus pandemic. Medical experts and legislators from both the U.S. and U.K. discussed the challenges they were facing due to online misinformation campaigns, and the roll social media platforms play in elevating incorrect information related to the coronavirus. The lawmakers also discussed the importance of the International Grand Committee on Disinformation, which is an international effort to create consistent legislation that would force social media companies to address the spread of misinformation on their platforms.
