As the United States speeds toward the 2020 election—in the middle of a health crisis, national reckoning with social injustice, and an infodemic—how are social media platforms addressing concerns about disinformation and manipulative political advertising? What are their policies? How are these policies applied and to whom? And how are policies shifting over time, particularly in response to new crises? Professors Shannon McGregor of the University of Utah and Daniel Kreiss of the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill joined the IDDP for a discussion on on June 23. This panel was moderated by Rebekah Tromble, Associate Director of IDDP.
