Henry E. Hale is Professor of Political Science and International Affairs and Co-Director of the Program on New Approaches to Research and Security in Eurasia (PONARS Eurasia). His work has won two prizes from the American Political Science Association, has been funded by the National Science Foundation among other sources, and has appeared in numerous peer-reviewed journals, including the American Political Science Review. Prominent themes in his research include public opinion, ethnic politics, political regimes, and the politics of Russia, Ukraine, and other post-Soviet countries, where he has conducted extensive field research. During 2017-2019, he was Vice-President of the American Political Science Association’s Organized Section on Qualitative and Multi-Method Research. He is the author of the books Patronal Politics: Eurasian Regime Dynamics in Comparative Perspective (Cambridge University Press, 2015), The Foundations of Ethnic Politics (Cambridge University Press, 2008), and Why Not Parties in Russia (Cambridge University Press, 2006).
